Chickens Hatched !!!!!!

Our chickens hatched! They started this past Friday and continued through Sunday morning. We hatched 19 out of 24. Two died in the egg and three were not fertilized. So technically we hatched 19 out of 21 fertile eggs. Unfortunately one of the Black Jersey’s died in the brooder. 5 of the 6 Red Stars hatched so we are excited to start this group off as our future breeding flock. Most of the Black Jersey’s will be sold later as pullets and cockerels. Videos and pictures to come.

Candled the Eggs

We have 20 Black Jersey Giant Eggs and 6 Red Star eggs in the incubator. Last night we candled them. Stay tuned for the post with the video. 2 of the eggs had no growth and we pulled them from the incubator. One was questionable so we left it until the next time we candle. We are using a Little Giant Incubator with an automatic turner. Rick installed a computer fan into the incubator so we saved money by not having to purchase that add on.
