Just discovered your site. Great. Wondering about your solar stuff and wind stuff. How have they held up during Hurricanes and Tornados?
We don’t get either of these near here, but you never know. We also have an abundance of cloudy days, and sunshine is scarce in the Seattle foothills of the Cascade mtns. Your most recent post seems to be about April 20,
We are in western NC so we don’t see too many tornadoes. We do see lots of thunderstorms with high winds. We haven’t had any problems with our Solar set up. It’s still up and going and we use it every night. Thanks for watching. You can see more solar, solar/wind, and wind projects on our youtube site. http://www.youtube.com/london1817
Do you have a company that installs these simple solar panels?
This is a do it your self kit from Harbor Freight.
anymore upgrade coming?
is your refridgerator also powered by the system?
Maybe you would want to try out thermoelectric TEC Peltier, it generate faster and more power much faster than solar panel
Thanks for watching. We are always working on improving our system. The frig is not on the system they tend to use a lot of watts.
Hi – wondering if you can direct me.
I may go for the 45 watt harbor freight unit you talked about, but frankly what I am hopping for is 150-200 watt kit at about $500.
Basically, as a hobby, but with also enough power to make a dent in my system.
Could you direct me to where I might find something like that?
sometimes you can find good deals on ebay. Finding a kit with 150-200 watts for that price is going to take some research. Buying the items separately and putting it together yourself is a great way to save money. Good Luck!
Hi Rick – Love your videos!! I just tuned into your Web and YouTubes recently – very informative while keeping it fun. 1 question when you got the new charge controller ( Xantrex ) did you keep the original harbor freight solar panels (3) and just got more battery capacity?
& if you don’t mind sharing what model chg conrol
do you have. Keep up the great work!!! Best regards, Rich in Pa
Yes we still have the harbor freight panels. will check the model number and post
I have the 30 amp xantrex charge controller. Thanks, Rick
Nicely presented. Have you ever looked into the motor magnet?
I am yet to get into making a full model but the stats add up, basically use alternating reverse poles on magnets attached to a lightweight wheel to create a full cycle, then use the magnets to charge via a coil.
I purchased instructions from some site but there crap, i’d recommend experimenting if you were ever thinking about it.
If i get my model sorted then i’ll let you know how to do it.
We have worked with wind power. Some of the videos are on youtube.
